The Qawalangin Tribe of Unalaska, a federally recognized sovereign nation of the United States since 1989, vows to exercise its powers to further the economic and social well-being of all its members, and in doing so, will safeguard and support the Unangan language, culture, customs and traditions for those generations to come.

Job Announcements

Title: Roads Coordinator

Supervisor: Tribal Administrator

Wages/Salary: $20 - $25 or DOE 20-35 hours per week


. Responsible to ensure full range of planning roads and assignments for improving the community and land development. Will work co-operatively with the Bureau of Indian Affairs Road Department. Duties are not limited to description.

. Research road/bridge improvements in the community

. Work in conjunction with the City of Unalaska and Ounalashka Corporation on road maintenance and future projects

. Keep Tribal Council and Administrator informed of changes made to program

. Responsible for submitting all required reports required by Regulations

. Submit Budget to Tribal Council and Administrator for approval

. Review maps and Specs on projects

. Correspond with all necessary government entities as required to keeping a good working relationship

. Attend training and meetings as needed to keep program up to date with new changes

. Submit a monthly report to Tribal Council and present it at Council Meetings

. Work co-operatively and effectively with Tribal council, Staff, and all government to government entities

. Keep and maintain an effective filing system of all records in secured filing room


. High School Diploma or GED required

. At least two years of experience working in an office environment

. Must be able to use copier, fax, and computer system

. Able to use Microsoft Office Programs: Word, Excel, Adobe, etc…

. Familiar with Alaskan Native cultures and traditions, particularly those specific to the Unangan (Aleut) people

. Native Preference will be given to qualified Alaskan Natives and American Indian applicants under the provisions of 93-638/100-472.

Subsistence Halibut Registration Certificate (SHARC) Alaska Native Tribe applications are available at the Tribe's Office.  Stop by and fill one out so you can go subsistence halibut fishing!

AVT/Supplemental Ed. Funding Status:

Like the Higher Ed. Funding status, it is with deep regret that we must announce that all of our AVT/Supplemental Education funds have been expended. We cannot provide financial assistance for Adult Vocational Training at this time.

Higher Ed. Funding Status:

It is with regret that we must inform you, that all of our Scholarship Funds have been expended. We cannot accept any Scholarship Applications from new students at this time.  This will not however affect the funding of our reoccurring students. The maximum length of time a student can be funded is 5 years. We are sorry for this, and wish all our Higher Ed. Students luck with their Scholarship Applications, and in all their future endeavors.
