Free Environmental Training Opportunity April 18th-April 30th

This is a free training provided by Zender Environmental for anyone employed less than 20 hours per week, with all travel costs covered. Annual Federal Subsistence Migratory Bird Harvest Opens, April 2nd 2017

The Alaska Migratory Bird Co-Management Council has announced the annual spring/summer federal subsistence migratory bird harvest regulations for 2017 will take effect on April 2. The regulations include a season for the emperor goose, following decades of conservation. The subsistence harvest of emperor goose had been closed since 1987. Camp Q. Raffle Tickets Available

Camp Qungaayux is happening again and this year we are celebrating our 20th anniversary. The dates for camp are July 30th - August 5th and registration is already opened. We are now selling raffle tickets at $20 each to raise money for Camp. The drawing will be on June 3rd during the O.C banquet at the UCSD small gym and you don't need to be present to win! Tribal council and tribal staff are selling the tickets and tickets are selling very fast. Feel free to contact or stop by the Tribal office if you would like to purchase a ticket.

The 6 batches of prizes are as following:

Batch 1: Necklace, Sweatshirt, Book, and 15 lbs of Cod

Batch 2: Jacket, Brunch for 2, Annual Pass Family Permit, and Basket of Jams

Batch 3: 15 lbs of Cod, Kuspuk, Tea pot, and Shadow Box

Batch 4: Print, Book, Blueberry Pie, and Unangan Doll

Batch 5: Gravel, Afagan, VHF, and 15 lbs of Cod

Batch 6: Oils and Soaps, Book, Unangan Headdresses, and Print

Survey Drawing Winners

At the Qawalangin Tribe's Annual meeting, a survey was available to the Tribal Membership that would provide first stage to developing Tribal Strategic Plan that identifies long and short term vision and achieving goals. Those who completed the survey had their names automatically entered into our Drawing. Congratulations to our winners and thank you for taking the time. Checks were mailed to winners on March 17th 2017.

Attention Tribal Members: We are in the process of updating all of our Tribal Members' files here at the office and entering Membership info. into our new software. Please contact the Administrative Office at (907) 581-2920 or email: [email protected] to get and fill out a Change of Name/Address Form. It is very important that we have all of our members' updated info.

Cultural Instructors Wanted

Culture Nights are a time to gather together once a week, to learn about the Unangan Culture. In the past, Culture Nights have been on Wednesday Nights at the Senior Center. Previous activities included sewing tassels on our sax (regalia), beading headdresses, and weaving baskets.

If you are interested in instructing a Culture Night, please contact us at the Tribal Office and let us know: what you will be teaching, and how many weeks you will be available to teach.

AVT/Supplemental Education Funding Status

Like the Higher Ed. Funding Status, it is with deep regret that we must announce that all of our Adult Vocational Training/Supplemental Education Funding has been expended. We cannot provide financial assistance for Adult Vocational Training at this time.

It is with regret that we must inform you, that all of our Scholarship Funds have been expended. We cannot accept any Scholarship Applications from new students at this time. This will not however affect the funding of our reoccurring students. The maximum length of time a student can be funded is 5 years. We are sorry for this, and wish all our Higher Ed. Students luck with their Scholarship Applications, and in all their future endeavors.
